Three Large Markets Post Impressive Sports Betting Numbers

The sports betting numbers continue to roll in on a monthly basis, and three large markets just shared their reports. Here is a look at the recent numbers from those states.

The year 2022 was a record-setting year for the sports betting industry in the United States, and it should be much of the same in 2023. States continue to report on sports betting totals on a monthly basis, and three of the biggest markets just announced some huge totals.

Arizona, New York, and Virginia are three states that continue to see impressive numbers in this industry, even though they are much different in size. New York is close to reaching a mark that no one ever thought possible, while Arizona and Virginia continue to trend towards the top-five.

Ohio and Massachusetts have launched betting in 2023 already, and those states are going to report on the first month at some point. The growth of online casino gambling has still remained a bit slow, but there is no stopping the sports betting industry.

Can New York Hit $2 Billion?

All eyes will be on the upcoming report from the New York State Gaming Commission as there is a chance that New York could go over $2 billion in monthly handle in January. This state reports on sports betting numbers a bit differently, as it’s a weekly total as opposed to just one big sum for the month.

January 1 fell on a Sunday this year, and that was a day that brought in plenty of NFL wagers. The final two days of January will be on the next report, and the state will also have to tally up all of the retail sports betting numbers.

Through the first four full weeks of January, the total sports betting handle has gone over $1.6 billion. This is already a new record in the industry, but getting to $2 billion was once a number that seemed to be unattainable.

New York continues to be the clear leader in this industry, but the overall numbers actually took a hit with a short playoff run from the Buffalo Bills. The numbers will cool off in February, but March will be another chance to set a record.

Arizona Slow to Report

The Arizona Department of Gaming is always slow to announce sports betting totals, as the November numbers were just announced. What was reported was impressive, though, as the total sports betting handle for the month was over $619 million.

This was the second straight month for Arizona with a sports betting handle total of more than $600 million, but it didn’t come close to matching the record set last March. With the announcement from Arizona, the month of November was wrapped up for the entire country.

The U.S. sports betting total was just over $10 billion for the month of November, and it was the first time that the country got to that point. The total net revenue for the month in Arizona was over $56 million, and that set a new record in the state.

Virginia Continues to Be Consistent

The state of Virginia kicked off February by announcing sports betting numbers from the month of December. The overall numbers were pretty predictable as the state went over $50 million in gross revenue for the fourth straight month.

Total sports betting handle was also a similar number as previous months as that total was over $500 million for the third straight month. Virginia is still just outside of the top five when it comes to the top markets, but it is exceeding expectations.
